Smith Coaches Inc was founded in Price, UT in 1978 by Michael Edward Smith as a bus company used to shuttle Utah, Carbon, and Sanpete County miners to and from work in the area’s coal mines. Although the company ran only 3 mine buses, Smith’s vision for the future began to take shape.

It wasn’t long before the bus company’s reputation of superior service, safety, and community grew into broader charter and shuttle services. This expansion in the early 80's included serving countless groups headed to Utah’s famous ski resorts both from Utah and from surrounding states. These years also included the company’s first ventures into the world of tours and tour operators.

During the next decade, Smith Coaches underwent a transition from a regional charter service to a mature bus company capable of handling groups and tours from across the United States and beyond, and the company’s reputation for professionalism, customer service, and quality experiences continued to grow as its satisfied customers shared their experiences with others.
